Out of the mouths of babes

Children have a way they view the world that can be hilarious. And they are quick to just say what comes to their minds. Oh the innocence!

So my friend’s son visited Zimbabwe from South Africa. In the high density areas people sell their wares walking about the streets, and advertise by using their vocal chords heartily. He took all this in, then finally got the chance to share his experience with an aunt much later when he got back home.

Kid: Aunt, there was a lady selling cobra at grandma’s place.

Aunt: Oh ok, dear.

Kid 😲: Aaah, cobra is a snake, so was she selling snakes??

Aunt🤣🤣: Why didn’t you ask her if she was selling a snake?

Cobra is a brand for floor polish that did so well we ended up baptizing our home-made products the same. Don’t we all do that? Coke for all fizzy drinks, Surf for all washing powders? It’s not unique to us Zimbabweans, it’s quite a common phenomenon worldwide actually!

Of giants and shepherd boys

The bible gives lasting and deep moral lessons. There are some common and well-liked ones like Adam and Eve, Joseph and his coat and the story of Moses to name just a few.

So one day my brother- and sister-in-law, Tare and Tari, were teaching from the story of David and Goliath. What an amazing story of bravery, the underdog (David) slaughtering the villain (Goliath). Before even getting to the deeper spiritual lessons of how trust in God can make us do the impossible, their son, Tamu, announced ‘I am Goliath’, puffing his chest and making himself as big as he could 😲…and that was the birth of Goliath in their house for the next month or so!

O be careful, little eyes

Somehow, I am always behind my kids when it comes to cartoons. I don’t know how they discover them. Some of the material is just not meant for them, it is adult content. However, some of the things are just plain silly, of no educational value at all.

One day our baby was watching such a valueless program, then I said, ‘What are you watching? This is nonsense!’ I forgot all about it. Just the other day, he went to that same program, making the big sister exclaim, ‘Mom 🤯🤯!! The baby is watching nonsense!
